App must be open or recently opened to take incoming call
I purchased the basic plan for one month to try out the service. I was excited to use the out-circle minutes. With unlimited incoming calls from outside phones, this seemed like an excellent service to evaluate.
iOS 8.1.3
IPhone 6+
I quickly found out you must have the app open to be 100% sure you will receive an incoming call to your assigned phone number from typical land/cell lines.
Further exploring the issue, the app must be have been opened within the past few minutes to work as well. If the app has not been used within the last 30 - 90 minutes the incoming call from the outside land/cell line will receive an instant busy signal.
I then called support and spoke to a real human regarding this. Thumbs up for getting a real person right away. The down side was unprofessional advice as to what my problem was. The person insisted it was due to weak wifi or 3G/4G signal. Neither couldnt be less true. I say unprofessional because it was like calling my non-tech brother for tech advice. This was advice, not support. I wanted them to report this up to someone who could look into it further. I got this immediate response, "Ive run into this before and its your weak signal strength." It sounded like this was a known issue and they just wanted me off the phone.
Further support engagements keep telling me it needs to run in the background. I know what this means and it does run in the background. But after that 30-90 minute window passes, its over. Busy signal.
If you are purchasing this app and plan to receive incoming calls from out-circle subscribers, I would not advise it. In fact, I would strongly recommend you not even consider this an option.
I have not tested member-to-member messaging as I dont know anyone else with the service.
Outgoing calls work good with some breaking-up from time to time. Nothing show stopping for me in this area.
I would give this a one star rating based on incoming calls alone but that wouldnt be fair since I havent tested the member-to-member calling.
It just seems odd that apps like Signal, Line2 and others can master the background process reliably and Silent Phone cannot.
Bottom line. As a person who values their privacy, this app can be summed up in one word. Disappointing.
